Editorial Guidelines & Testing Standards
Our commitment to editorial independence, peer-reviewed network testing methodology, and strict conflict-of-interest policies.
Effective Date: January 1, 2026 | Last Verified: 2026-09-12
1. Editorial Mission & Purpose
The mission of Virgin Media Speed Test, published by Broadband Telemetry Research Ltd, is to provide consumers, remote workers, gamers, and network engineers with objective, verifiable, and mathematically sound internet diagnostic tools and educational resources. We believe transparency is the foundation of digital trust.
2. 100% Editorial Independence Policy
We do not accept financial compensation, product placement fees, or sponsored rankings from Virgin Media, its parent company Liberty Global / Virgin Media O2, or any competing internet service provider.
- No Sponsored Benchmark Results: We never alter speed test metrics or calculator projections to favor or penalize any ISP.
- Separation of Content and Advertising: All advertising displayed on our platform is served programmatically via Google AdSense and clearly designated with "Advertisement" labels. Advertisers have zero input or influence over our editorial decisions.
3. Quantitative Fact-Checking & Peer Review
Every guide, calculator algorithm, and troubleshooting protocol published on this platform undergoes a multi-step review process:
- Primary Authoring: Content is authored by a subject-matter expert with verifiable credentials in computer networks, electrical engineering, or telecommunications hardware.
- Technical Peer Review: A secondary network engineer (CCIE or IEEE member) verifies all mathematical formulas, RFC citations, and technical statements.
- Empirical Lab Validation: Hardware and speed optimization claims are tested on real physical test rigs before publication.
4. Conflict of Interest Disclosures
Our authors and contributors are required to disclose any current or past consulting engagements with telecommunications carriers. Contributors with active commercial ties to an ISP are prohibited from authoring comparative benchmarks involving that provider.
5. Corrections & Data Accuracy SLA
If you identify an error, outdated speed tier specification, or inaccurate formula on our website, please notify us immediately through our Contact Us page or directly at support@virginmediaspeedtest.co.uk. Our engineering staff investigates all data correction requests within 48 business hours and publishes timestamped corrections when warranted.
